
Thunder on Cocoa Beach - The Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix is here! Get ready for more off-shore power boat race action than you can handle on Cocoa Beach from May 15th - May 19th, 2013. Race weekend kicks off with an early VIP Sponsor Party on Wednesday, May 15th at Juice N' Java Cafe in Downtown Cocoa Beach from 6pm - 11pm. Party-goers can enjoy live musicplus complimentary food, beer, wine and soft drinks.
Race Director Kerry Bartlett told us, "This is our 4th annual race and we're expecting this year's Thunder on Cocoa Beach to be bigger and better than ever. We've got more boats lined up than last year and have added some awesome newperks for our VIP Pass holders."
These new perks for VIP Pass holders include premium race viewing now in threelocations - the Cocoa Beach Pier, Lori Wilson Park and Alan Shepard Park. Each of these premium viewing areas has their own VIP Hospitality tent that will beserving complimentary food, beer, wine and soft drinks. The hospitality tents also have tiered seating so you won't miss a minute of the off-shore power boat raceaction.
The parties continue throughout the weekend with a special VIP Party Thursday,May 16th in Port Canaveral; a VIP Party at Coconuts on the Beach and StreetParty in Downtown Cocoa Beach on Friday, May 17th; a VIP Party Saturday, May18th in Port Canaveral which includes a bikini contest and a live concert by country star Blake Wise; and an After Race Party at Mambo's in the InternationalPalms Hotel in Cocoa Beach featuring Jamaikin Me Crazy.
The Saturday night bikini contest and concert in Port Canaveral featuring country star Blake Wise is free to the public. VIP Pass holders will enjoy complimentary access to the concert's hospitality tent that will provide seating pluscomplimentary food, beer, wine and soft drinks.
You can get a preview of all the race action on Saturday, May 18th from 12pm -5pm during preliminary testing. The boats will be launched from the Wet Hot Pits next to Bluepoints Marina in Port Canaveral and will test run out past thejetty at Jetty Park. The best places to view the boats during their test runs is from the decks at any of the great restaurants in the Port such as Milliken's Reef, BajaTavern & Eats, Rusty's Seafood & Oyster Bar, Fishlips Waterfront Bar & Grill or Grills Seafood Deck & Tiki Bar.
Sunday, May 19th is race day. Premium viewing areas and hospitality tents areset up at the Cocoa Beach Pier, Alan Shepard Park and Lori Wilson Park. Theboats will launch from the wet hot pits next to Bluepoints Marina in PortCanaveral, travel through the Port, turning south at the Jetty at Jetty Park. Thestart & finish line are off-shore from Alan Shepard Park at the end of State Road520/E. Cocoa Beach Causeway. The boats start at Alan Shepard Park headingSouth to Turn #1 off-shore from Lori Wilson Park and then heading North toTurn #2 at the Cocoa Beach Pier. The races are run in two heats. Race one begins at 12pm and race 2 begins shortly after at 1:30pm. Immediately following the end of each race the boats will return to the wet hot pits in Port Canaveral.
To complete race weekend, the awards ceremony will be held in Port Canaveral at5pm on Sunday, May 19th. There will also be an after race party at Mambo's at the International Palms Hotel in Cocoa Beach featuring Jamaikin Me Crazy from 4pm - 10pm on race day.
